In spring 2017, parking restrictions were introduced to certain areas of Hampden Hall estate following complaints to Weston Turville Parish Council from local residents regarding congested roads and inconsiderate parking which was causing a danger to both pedestrians and road users. The main issue was that cars were being parked on bends and close to junctions.

The Parish Council worked with the Highways Authority, Bucks County Council, to find a solution to this dangerous parking. Funded by a grant from the Wendover Local Area Forum, Transport for Bucks carried out a feasibility study with recommendations about where the parking restrictions should go, which the Parish Council accepted. There then followed an informal consultation carried out by the Parish Council as well as the formal consultation process by Bucks County Council.

There were some objections to the scheme from residents living in adjacent properties to the proposed lines but these were over ruled by Bucks County Council as the restrictions were only being introduced in locations where the Highway Code states parking should not occur (ie within 10m of a junction or on a bend – Highway Code rule 243).

Chairman, Cllr Martin Jarvis, said “Whilst we understand that some residents are frustrated that they can no longer park in certain locations, the restrictions were put in place to ensure road safety for all. Unfortunately in contravention of the Highway Code, a number of cars were being parked close to junctions and on bends which created a hazard. Cars parked on Silver Birch Way forced vehicles entering the estate to do so on the wrong side of the road. Since the introduction of the scheme, the entrance to Hampden Hall and the tight bends within the estate are no longer congested by parked cars and road users can enter and exit and move around the estate safely.”
